Vosper Thornycroft (VT) is scheduled to play a significant role in the design and construction of the initial batch of Type 45 destroyers for the Royal Navy.

VT will share in the design and production of the first three ships as well as the assembly of the second ship, which will be named HMS Dauntless. The company is currently working with the prime contractor BAE Systems on the design of the new class. Production work will commence in early 2002, with the second ship, to be assembled by VT, delivered to the Royal Navy in 2009.
