U.S. Approves Shallow-Water Well in Gulf

According to a July 20 report from The Wall Street Journal, the Obama administration has approved a permit to drill a new well in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico, the first such clearance since new safety regulations were put in place in response to the BP PLC oil spill. The permit was granted to Apache Corp. in Houston, which began work on the well Sunday, July 18.
