DNV Opens Virtual Shipyard

October 5, 1999

Det Norske Veritas (DNV) opened the world's first virtual shipyard representing state-of-the-art within ship classification. Based on DNV's digital platform Nauticus, the program enables both shipowners and shipyards with vitally upgraded access to relevant ship information. Established in the offices of the Technical University of Gdansk in Poland, the virtual shipyard aims to ensure efficient production of three dimensional graphical models as part of DNV's move towards active use of product models in ship classification. In the near future, product models will encompass all information related to classification during the lifetime of a ship, ensuring optimal ship classification.
