Singaporean Maritime Industry Gathers for GL 140th Anniversary

With more than 150 representatives of the shipowners, shipyards, supply industry and administrations of the Singaporean maritime arena Germanischer Lloyd celebrated its 140th anniversary in Singapore. From the very beginning, the classification society Germanischer Lloyd has been present in Asia. In 1869, just two years after its foundation in Hamburg, Germany, the society opened its first office in Singapore to provide engineering services to the Asian maritime industry. Today, Germanischer Lloyd Singapore consists of 23 employees that serve 120 customers - ship owners, ship managers, shipyards, workshops, materials and components suppliers as well as service suppliers in the local region. Furthermore, the regional setup consists of more than 470 employees working for Germanischer Lloyd under the umbrella of Division East Asia. The spectrum of services includes amongst others newbuilding supervision, ship in service inspections, ISM, ISO and ISPS certification, quality management certification and approval of workshops / shipyards as well as training activities.
