SMM 2018 Opens in Hamburg

Last night at a gala in Hamburg's historic city hall, the SMM 2018 was officially opened in a lavish ceremony headlined by Kitack Lim, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization. In his speech, Lim touted IMO's landmark work of late in regards to environmental initiatives, while noting that much work still needs to be done. He also singled out initiatives on autonomous shipping, noting that much attention and study is being paid to the emerging trend in terms of technology, legal issue and particularly the cyber security threat. SMM 2018, the world's leading ship technology event, runs through Friday, September 7 in Hamburg, Germany.
