Turkey Completes Ay-class Submarines Upgrade

 Turkey has completed upgrades on two Ay-class submarines, contractor STM, an Ankara-based defense technologies company, said.

The modernization project comprising renewal of Electronic Support, Attack and Search Periscopes and Inertial Navigation Systems has been carried out by STM as the main contractor and applied successfully on TCG DOĞANAY (S-351) and TCG DOLUNAY (S-352), AY- Class submarines.
The project has been started in 2011. The modernization process of TCD DOLUNAY Submarine completed successfully on April 09, 2014 and TCD DOĞANAY’s finished on April 22, 2015 and both submarines has been delivered to the Turkish Naval Forces.
The modernization project led by the STM remains significant in a way that for the first time in the history of Turkey, a civilian company has been appointed as a main-contractor of a navy submarine project. It is also important to note that, the project is crucial in improving the capacity of Turkish Naval Forces and remained important in increasing the participation of Turkish defense industry companies in military projects.
In line with these developments, a reception was held in Gölcük Military Shipyard on June 16, 2015 and successful delivery of the submarines congratulated by the attendance of the head of the military shipyard and STM’s two Deputy General Managers.
