May 27, 2009

Fairstar Heavy Transport NV (FAIR) announced that the submersion test of its self-propelled semi-submersible vessel Fjell was successfully executed on Sunday May 17 in Malta under the scrutiny of representatives of Det Norske Veritas (DNV). DNV has issued Certificates of Class to Fairstar. The vessel is now qualified to operate as a fully-certified semi-submersible heavy transport vessel.

Willem Out, Managing Director Fleet, said, "Throughout the test, the stability of the ship and the control of the de-ballasting and re-ballasting were outstanding."

The Fjell departed Malta on May 17 for Trapani, Sicily in order to transport and launch a 7000 tons chemical tanker. The operation was expected to take five days. Fjell will depart immediately afterwards for Lobito, Angola where it will load a cargo of steel superstructure components for transport to the DSME yard in Okpo, Korea.
