Commandos Repel Pirates from Iranian Supertanker

April 11, 2011

A statement issued by the public relations office of the Iranian Navy on April 9 said Iran's oceangoing supertanker, Voyager 1, came under attack by two pirate speedboats in the Indian Ocean off the Pakistani Southwest coasts but was saved by the timely action of the Iranian Navy commandos. The Iranian Navy has been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008, when Somali raiders hijacked the Iranian-chartered cargo ship, MV Delight, off the coast of Yemen.
