Sperry Marine Nav Systems for Italian Superyachts

August 31, 2010

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has been selected to supply the bridge navigation systems for two new superyachts under construction by Italian yachtbuilder Perini Navi at its shipyards in Viareggio and La Spezia.

The orders for the integrated bridge systems were awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit through Telemar Yachting, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine’s authorized sales and service representative for the yacht market in Italy. Telemar Yachting is responsible for designing, installing, integrating and commissioning the bridge electronics for the two yachts.

The yachts are the 183.7-ft aluminum ketch SY Melek, which was launched in July, and a new-design 180.4-ft steel-hull motoryacht in Perini Navi’s Vitruvius Explorer series scheduled for delivery in summer 2011. The motoryacht is being built to American Bureau of Shipping ice-class specifications for operation in Arctic and Antarctic waters.

“The new megayachts are being fitted with VisionMaster FT TotalWatch multifunction workstations, integrating the electronic charting system, radars, autopilot, heading and speed sensors in an Ethernet navigation network,” said J. Nolasco DaCunha, vice president, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine.
