Aker Brattvaag Signs Supplyship Contract

Skipsverft AS has signed a contract with Waveney Shipping Ltd for the building of a platform supply vessel. The contract is worth a total of around NOK 130 million. Brattvaag Skipsverft AS belongs to the Aker Brattvaag Group, which is 100 percent owned by Aker Yards. Rolls-Royce Marine will supply design and equipment worth approximately NOK 30 million.The hull will be built in Romania and the completed vessel is scheduled for delivery in April 2003.The contract with Brattvaag Skipsverft AS is for a platform supply vessel of the type UT 755 L, developed by Rolls-Royce Marine’s design division. The Aker Brattvaag group and the Brevik group have built 22 vessels of this type and have a further 16 vessels under construction and on order.The vessel will be an enlarged version of the well-known UT 755 design for satisfying the general demands of the offshore industry, such as transport of pipes, cement, different types of fluid and equipment and cargo to and from pipe-laying barges, drilling platforms and production platforms. Waveney Shipping Ltd manages and operates two UT 755 vessels today. Waveney Shipping Ltd contracted the first UT 755 vessel from the Aker Brattvaag Group. This vessel was built by Søviknes Verft AS in 1996, and it is pleasing that Waveney Shipping Ltd again contracts a newbuilding with Aker Brattvaag.The contract was brokered by the brokerage house R. S. Platou and JB Offshore, Surrey.The contract will secure employment at Brattvaag Skipsverft AS in the time ahead and also give positive spin-offs to a number of local subcontractors and equipment suppliers.
