Record Cargo Traffic at VOC Port

 V.O.Chidambaranar Port Trust, Tuticorin, has crossed the previous year’s traffic of 28.642 million tonnes on Feb 27, 32 days ahead of the current financial year closing by handling 28.849 million tones (upto Feb 27).

 
According to a statement from the VOC Port Trust, the Port crossed the previous year’s (2013-14) Container traffic volume of 5,07,735 TEUs on March 3, by handling 5,08,678 TEUs of Container Traffic during the current year (as on March 3).
VOC Port has handled record cargo traffic of 3.235 mln Tonnes during February, surpassing the previous achievement of 2.853 mln tonnes handled during March 2014, which is the highest ever tonnage handled at the port in a single month so far.
Major cargoes that contributed to the achievement were coal, pet coke, copper concentrate, rock phosphate, construction material, containerised cargoes, oil cake copra, naptha, furnace oil, liquid ammonia and caustic soda lye. 
S. Anantha Chandra Bose, Chairman V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust thanked all the stakeholders viz.  Port Users, Vessel Operators, the Container Terminal Operator and Officials  of  the Port who have contributed to achieve these  records and requested to continue the better performance in the future to achieve the Ministry's cargo traffic target of  32.00 Million Tonnes, set for the financial year  2014-15.
