Transportation Safety Board Issues Marine Safety Advisory

January 23, 2007

The Transportation Safety Board issued a Marine Safety Advisory to BC Ferries regarding the adequacy of vessel mooring arrangements in the wake of the January 9 incident where the MV Quinsam unexpectedly pulled away from the dock. Consistent with BC Ferries’ commitment to releasing Marine Safety Advisories, attached is a copy of the document.

“BC Ferries agrees with the Transportation Safety Board’s position that a more robust mooring arrangement would help ensure overall safety and immediately after the MV Quinsam incident, a review of its tie-up procedures and arrangements was initiated throughout the fleet,” said David Hahn, BC Ferries’ President and CEO. In the meantime, BC Ferries internal investigation into the MV Quinsam incident continues and the final report is anticipated this week.
