Network For Independent Transportation Companies Formed
International Freight & Logistics Network Inc, a new network of independent international transportation companies, has recently been established.The organization will promote and support freight handling, logistics, customs brokerage and other related services, said Michel Vanlerberghe, who started the operation in Oak Brook, Ill. Companies eligible for the service include any transportation related firms, including non-vessel operating common carriers, steamship lines, air carriers, port authorities, law firms, industry associations, consulting specialists and others. The idea is to promote a worldwide network that will allow members to compete directly with multinational companies, Vanlerberghe said.
International Freight will offer services to members, including via a website, an Internet-based tracking/tracing and e-mail system. The cost of membership will vary, depending on the country.
For a U.S. company, the membership fee will be $2,500 per year and for a company in Bangladesh, the fee would be $1,500 a year, Vanlerberghe said. "The idea is to put these companies together so they can work together," Vanlerberghe said. "This allows medium-sized companies to be part of a network."
In the first few weeks of operation, International Freight has attracted 71 member offices in 20 countries. Vanlerberghe, who has worked in transportation for 25 years, hopes to get 100 member offices in 35 to 40 countries by the end of the year.
