ClassNK Releases EEDI Verification Software – Free

April 16, 2014

Japanese classification society ClassNK says it offers its Minimum Propulsion Power Calculation Software and ISO-based Progressive Speed Trial Analysis Software free of charge to the shipping Industry

ClassNK has released its new PrimeShip-GREEN/MinPower software, developed to help shipyards comply with the EEDI requirements of the Amendment to MARPOL Annex VI by calculating minimum propulsion power requirements in compliance with ‘IMO 2013 Interim Guidelines for Determining Minimum Propulsion Power to Maintain the Manoeuvrability of Ships In Adverse Conditions’.

To evaluate minimum propulsion power requirement, added resistance in irregular waves should be calculated based on ship’s Lines, and this calculation can be difficult especially at the initial design stage. Consequently ClassNK has  developed this simplified formula to calculate added resistance in waves using only basic information such as main ship specifications, allowing designers to easily evaluate the minimum propulsion power requirement for their ships.

ClassNK Opens New Belem, Brazil, Survey Office
In related company news the classification society informs it has established a new exclusive survey office in Belem, Brazil.

Located on the north-east coast of Brazil adjacent to the Para River, Belem is the second largest city in the northern Brazil. The entrance gate to the Amazon River, Belem also has one of the largest ports in the region. The Belem Office will operate alongside ClassNK’s two other exclusive survey offices in Brazil located in Rio de Janeiro and Santos.
