The vessel is BW’s fifth newbuilding with ME-GI propulsion and re-liquefaction system, in a series of nine new builds on order from DSME yard. The remaining four will be delivered by 2022, increasing the company's LNG carrier fleet size to 28 units.

According to BW LNG, the BW ME-GI vessels have a fuel consumption saving potential compared to previous generations of TFDE and Steam-vessels of 35% and 50% respectively.

"This coupled with the low methane slippage from the ME-GI engine makes hull 2491 among the best in class in terms of CO2e emissions," BW has said.
