Poor Weather Blocks Ship Rescue

February 6, 2006

Poor weather conditions and strong ice-break have blocked the rescue operation of Bulgaria's Katya Z ship, stuck in the Sea of Azov off Ukraine. Three tugboats have managed to break the iceberg under the right board of the ship. A check proved that the systems of the ship are working properly and that it would be able to sail. The rescue operation would continue once the weather improves. The ship with 18 sailors onboard run aground in the Sea of Azov on January 28. Katya Z has 14 Bulgarian sailors and four Ukrainians onboard. All crew members are feeling well.
