August 3, 2015

A fire broke out Saturday aboard U.S. 6th Fleet command and control ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC20) while the ship was dry docked for maintenance in Rijeka, Croatia, the U.S. Navy reported.

The incident did not cause any personnel injuries, the Navy said, adding that the fire was extinguished within 45 minutes by personnel from the ship's force and shipyard fire brigade. The cause of fire and extent of damage are under investigation.

Mount Whitney has been in Viktor Lenac Shipyard since January for a scheduled maintenance overhaul that aims to extend the ship’s service life to 2039.
