Crowley Scholarship Goes to Williams-Mystic Student

February 10, 2004

Jill Harris, from McClean, Virginia, a student in the Maritime Studies Program of Williams College and Mystic Seaport, has been named as a recipient of a Thomas B. Crowley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship, which is presented annually at the institution by Crowley Maritime Corporation.

Harris was selected based on academic success, financial need, and her interest in maritime trades and studies. In addition to participating in the Williams-Mystic program, Harris attends Dartmouth where she is an Environmental Studies and Evolutionary Biology major.

Williams-Mystic is the only interdisciplinary program of its kind. Undergraduates of all majors share one semester at Mystic Seaport to focus on the past, present and future of the earth's oceans. Williams-Mystic combines the academic excellence of Williams College and the unparalleled learning environment of Mystic Seaport - The Museum of America and the Sea. Students participate in four rigorous courses, a museum skills class, a Pacific Coast field seminar, a Nantucket Island field seminar, and a deep-water offshore voyage.

Over the years, Crowley Chairman, President and CEO, Tom Crowley Jr., has given tens of thousands of dollars to deserving students at the maritime academies and other select institutions in the name of his father Thomas B. Crowley Sr., who guided the company to extraordinary heights before passing away in 1994.
