Fast Car Ferry Panel to Address WorkBoat Show
August 25, 2003
A panel featuring designers, shipbuilders and
operators will discuss the emerging growth of Fast Ferry construction
and current projects underway at the International WorkBoat Show. The
paneled discussion will be the second of two free keynote presentations
scheduled during the show and will take place at the Morial Convention
Center, New Orleans, LA, Thursday, Dec. 4, from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm.
In an effort to relieve clogged highways and bad air in U.S. cities,
officials are looking at water transit as an alternative form of
transportation. In this keynote, panelists will discuss their
involvement on specific projects including the San Francisco's Water
Transit Authority plan to build 31 passenger ferries over 10 years, Lake
Michigan's Lake Express car ferry, and Lake Erie's planned U.S./Canada
services.
"Our second keynote at the show is timely with the increased attention
being paid to fast ferries in the U.S.," said David Krapf, editor of
WorkBoat magazine. "As roadways in major metropolitan areas become more
and more congested, interest in alternate modes of transportation such
as ferries will only increase in the future."
