Tuco’s New Arctic Workboat to Debut at SMM
Danish producer Tuco Marine said it will reveal a new Arctic workboat daughter craft at next month’s SMM in Hamburg.
Many arctic patrol vessels, icebrakers and polar research vessels are currently under development and construction worldwide, and therefore it is as a specialized workboat daughter craft for such mother ships that the new ProZero Arctic workboat is a great match, according to Tuco.
Designed by a team of engineers, through collaboration with multiple naval experts, the Arctic daughter craft has been developed upon the many requests Tuco has received for specialized and cold climate featured workboats from the Tuco Marine ProZero series of daughter crafts, workboats and FRCs. Tuco said that end users have been closely involved in the design and layout of the workboat, as the designer worked closely with Arctic operators to ensure the boat will fit the demands from this specific market.
ProZero boats are available in a multitude of variations, which are tuned to suit each individual user’s particular requirements. Cockpit layout in the workboats are arranged to maximize the use of modern operations management and situational awareness electronic aids.
The Arctic edition ProZero hull features special appendages to optimize for ice sailing and secures the boat’s capabilities of supplying a stable ride, even in rough seas. Often Arctic missions in rough seas are mainly limited by the human factor of shock mitigation and climate impacts. The ProZero workboat has therefore been developed around the design team’s shock mitigation strategy, which means the design includes a high focus on minimizing the effects of shocks to the human body and the boat, and further minimizing the effects of the cold climate to humans, boat and equipment.
ProZero workboats can be rapidly reconfigured to meet different roles and requirements, which can include SAR variants, fire support variants and command platform variants. Parameters like delivery time and customization according to customer demands are, during the design phase, a focal point. This is why the complete construction system behind the series is module based, allowing for easy adjusting and customizing.
