OW Bunker Bankruptcy has âLimited Impactâ on Monjasa
Though OW Bunkerâs collapse has varyingly affected many companies around the globe, Danish bunker fuel provider Monjasa A/S said in a statement that the news holds an âinsignificant commercial impactâ for its business as the company has had only limited financial exposure towards OW Bunker. âFor Monjasa, the events have only very limited commercial effect. NAT CEO: Low Oil Prices Benefit the Tanker Market
Nordic American Tankers Limited Chairman & CEO Herbjørn Hansson addressed the impacts of low oil prices on the tanker business in a letter to shareholders, citing the decrease in oil price as an overall positive for the world tanker market and possible trigger for the recent rate upswing for Suexmax tankers. âThe upswing in Suezmax tanker rates in the recent past may have to some extent to do with the decrease in the oil price,â Hansson said.

HHI Names Worldâs Largest Containership
The worldâs largest containership was named at a ceremony held by builder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) this week. The ship, named CSCL Globe, is the first of five 19,000 TEU containerships for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), and takes the title of worldâs largest containership from Maersk Lineâs 18,000 teu Triple E class vessels. Measuring 400 meters in length, 58.6 meters in width and 30.5 meters in depth, CSCL Globe is as large as four soccer fields.

RT Endeavour Delivered in Hong Kong
Second ART 80-32 Rotortug delivered to Elisabeth Ltd. RT Endeavour, the second of four Rotortugs on order with Cheoy Lee shipyards Ltd. and designed by Robert Allan Ltd., sailed Hong Kong waters Saturday, November 15, 2014 on her way from the build yard to her new owner Elisabeth Ltd., who took delivery of the vessel in Hong Kong. The Rotortug distinguishes itself from the conventional ASD, Tractor or Voith Schneider designs by using a triangular propulsion configuration.

Odfjell Results âImproving, But Not Yet Sustainableâ

UASC Selects Jotun Coatings for 11 New Containerships
As part of a $2.3 billion newbuilding program, United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has reached an agreement with Jotun for the provision of antifouling coatings for 11 new container vessels. The agreement marks the first time the companies have worked together on marine antifouling hull coatings. Of the 11 vessels to be coated with Jotun's premium antifouling range, eight are 14,500 TEU and three are 18,800 TEU capacity vessels.

Quantum of the Seas Sails into New York Harbor
Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ship, Quantum of the Seas, arrived in the New York Harbor in the early morning hours on November 10. The 167,800-gt cruise ship, built by MEYER WERFT, departed from Bremerhaven to Southampton October 28, 2014, from where she embarked on her Atlantic crossing on November 2. Quantum of the Seas arrived to New York Harbor Monday, passing under the Verazzano Bridge and past the Statue of Liberty before heading into her homeportâŚ

CMA CGM to Apply Low Sulfur Surcharge
CMA CGM said it will implement a low sulfur surcharge on all its trades in Emission Control Areas (ECAs) and for all cargos as of January 1, 2015. MARPOL Annex VI regulations for the prevention of air pollution from ships assign Sulfur Oxides (SOx) Emission Control Areas (ECA) with more stringent controls on sulfur emissions. Stricter regulations covering the sulfur content of fuel oil will be strengthened by local regulators in the European Union, U.S. and Canada.

South Korea Votes to Disband its Coast Guard
South Koreaâs national assembly has voted to pass legislation effectively disbanding its coast guard after the organization fell under heavy criticism in wake of Aprilâs Sewol ferry capsizing which killed more than 300, most of whom were high school students. South Korean police will take over the coast guardâs responsibilities as a new safety agency is formed. Extensive criticism targeted the coast guardsâ rescue efforts as public opinion deemed its performance highly inadequate.

Fire-stricken Shipbuilder Enters Voluntary Administration
Brisbane-based shipbuilders Aluminium Boats Australia Pty Ltd has been placed into voluntary administration after a shipyard fire in August has set the company toward financial instability. Cruise Ship Passenger Isolated Due to Ebola Risk
A Texas hospital employee who may have handled lab specimens from an Ebola victim has entered voluntary isolation on board a Carnival cruise ship in the Caribbean. Maersk Supply Service Orders Six Anchor Handlers
Kleven Maritime A/S has been contracted by Maersk Supply Service to build six anchor handling tug supply vessels, with options for four additional newbuilds. The vessels, all of Salt Ship Designâs SALT 200 AHTS design, will be built at Kleven's two shipyards in Norway, Kleven Verft and Myklebust Verft for deepwater operations for potential customers including international oil companies and construction companies worldwide.

DOF Installer Sells Offshore Vessel
DOF Subsea AS subsidiary, DOF Installer ASA, reported the sale of one of its three sister ships, an anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel, to an international buyer. According to the company, the sale will release approximately $1.7 million for the DOF Group after redemption of debt. Delivery to the new owners is expected late 2014.

Video: Containerships Collide in Suez Canal
Two large containerships collided in the Suez Canal off Port Said at roughly 5:30 local time Monday morning. The Hapag-Lloydâs Colombo Express, a 324-meter German-flagged containership, collided with 332-meter Singapore-flagged Maersk Tanjong, causing several dropped containers and a large gash in the Colombo Expressâ bow.
