Island Performer Equipped for Deep-Sea Subsea Work
The Ulstein Verft subsea newbuild, Island Performer, was delivered today to shipowner Island Offshore. Marseilles Fos to Receive Rail Service Upgrade
Rail operator Naviland Cargo is lifting the frequency of its Marseilles Fos-Strasbourg service from three to five round trips per week by the end of the year. Naviland announced the upgrade when more than 90 Alsace-based shippers and transport professionals attended a presentation in Strasbourg by promotional body Via Marseilles Fos (VMF) – formed by the port authority, port users and the chamber of commerce – which was hosting its first event in the key hinterland region.

Merco Docks Help Town Celebrate Independence Day
Local dock builder donates temporary docks to support Independence Day festivities. The City of Wellsburg’s courtesy docks are missing for the 2014 boating season after being deemed unsafe for public use and completely removed from the 12th street launch ramp area this past winter. Atlantic Towing Orders Ice Class Damen PSVs
Atlantic Towing (USA) has selected newly-designed, ice-strengthened PSV 5000 vessels from Damen Shipyards Group to meet its 10-year offshore support contract with ExxonMobil Canada Properties and Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd. (HMDC). The vessels will operate in the sub-arctic waters of the Hibernia and Hebron oil fields, off Newfoundland and Labrador. ATL will take delivery of four PSV 5000 vessels, one of which will be equipped for inspection, repair and maintenance duties.

L-3 MSI to Supply Electrical Packages to Biogas Ferry
L-3 Marine Systems International (L-3 MSI) announced today that it has been awarded a contract to provide advanced automation, navigation, communications and electrical propulsion facilities for Samsø Færgen, a new 100-meter, double-ended passenger/car ferry built by Remontowa Shipbuilding at its Gdansk shipyard on behalf of Danish proprietor, Samsø Municipality. Initially LNG-fuelled, Samsø Færgen is reportedly expected to become the world’s first ferry to operate on locally supplied biogas.

Moose Boats to Build Fireboat for Bellingham
Moose Boats, a boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, has been awarded a contract from Bellingham Fire Department in Washington State for the construction of a M2-38 Catamaran CBRN Emergency Response and Recovery Vessel. The M2-38 aluminum catamaran will be powered by twin Cummins QSB6.7 425hp turbo diesel propulsion engines coupled to Hamilton HJ292 water-jets via TwinDisc 5075SC marine transmissions.

Maersk, UltraAqua Divest DESMI Stakes
The partners behind DESMI Ocean Guard A/S today announced that A.P. Moller - Maersk A/S and UltraAqua A/S have sold their shares in DESMI Ocean Guard A/S to DESMI A/S. The transaction gives DESMI A/S full ownership of the company, which presently has two Ballast Water Treatment systems in its portfolio. The Switch to Be Acquired by Yaskawa
Yaskawa Electric Corporation, a company in motion control and robotics, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire The Switch, a supplier of megawatt-class permanent magnet generator and full-power converter packages for wind power and other renewable energy applications. The estimated schedule for closing the deal is within a few weeks. The Switch brand will continue as its own entity for selected markets and applications.
