After Trump's order for a submarine, the Kremlin warns against nuclear rhetoric

Posted to Maritime Reporter on August 4, 2025

In its first reaction to Donald Trump's statement that he ordered the repositioning nuclear submarines in the United States, the Kremlin warned everyone on Monday against using nuclear rhetoric.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesperson, played down the importance of Trump's Friday announcement that he ordered two submarines to be sent to "the proper regions" as a response to remarks made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev regarding the danger of nuclear war between the adversaries.

In this case, there is no doubt that American subs are on active combat duty. Peskov informed reporters that this is a continuous process.

He added: "But generally, we wouldn't want to get into such a controversy, and we wouldn't want to comment about it in any way." "We believe everyone should be very, extremely careful when using nuclear rhetoric."

Peskov stated that Russia does not consider Trump's remarks to be an increase in tensions over nuclear weapons.

"We don't believe we are discussing any kind of escalation at this time. He said that it was clear there were complex and sensitive issues being discussed. Many people, however, interpreted them as very emotional.

Peskov refused to directly answer the question of whether or not the Kremlin tried to warn Medvedev that he should tone down his online dispute with Trump.

"Listen to me, the leaders of every country have different opinions and attitudes about what is happening. He said that there are always people in Europe and the United States who have a very hard-headed attitude.

He said, "But, the most important thing is, of course the position of (Vladimir), Putin." "You are aware that the foreign policy of our country is set by President Putin, who is also the head-of-state."
