At the Ukraine-Turkey meeting in Paris, Turkey will stress the'strategic importance' of Black Sea Security
A Turkish Foreign Ministry source said on Monday that the Turkish Foreign Minister will emphasize the "strategic importance" of maintaining the security in the Black Sea during a summit in Paris on Ukraine this week.
Emmanuel Macron, the French president, convened a meeting of the "Coalition of the Willing", on Tuesday. The group includes over 30 countries, including Britain and France.
Sources say that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will attend the meeting, and reiterate Turkey's position regarding the need for "result-oriented" measures to end the conflict.
Focus on Draft US Plan
The source stated that the talks at the Paris summit would be centered on the articles of a U.S. plan to end war as well as the security guarantees for Ukraine, and possible roles the Coalition could play.
The 'person' said Fidan will point out "concrete results" from three previous direct talks between Ukrainian and Russian officials, including prisoner exchanges, in Istanbul and reiterate Ankara’s offer to host leaders of warring parties.
Fidan will "state that Turkey considers maintaining security in Black Sea a strategic priority, and it reminds all sides of its position on this issue", said the source.
NATO member Turkey maintained friendly relations with Moscow and Kyiv during the war. It has offered military support to Ukraine, but refused to join Western sanctions against Russia.
Ankara warned both sides about the recent escalation of violence in the Black Sea. Drones struck Turkish and Russian vessels, while Ukrainian ports were also damaged. Turkey also saw a number of drones entering its airspace over the past few weeks and even downed one in its capital.
Erdogan announced last week that he will discuss various topics with U.S. president Donald Trump during a telephone call on Monday. This includes matters relating to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. (Reporting and editing by Alex Richardson; Tuvan Gumrukcu)
