The Daily Mail reported that a British nuclear-powered submarine equipped with Tomahawk Cruise Missiles has taken up position in the Arabian Sea, giving Britain the ability to launch long-range attacks if the regional conflict escalates.

Could not immediately verify the information. The British Ministry of Defence didn't immediately reply to a comment request.

The Daily Mail reported that HMS Anson was armed with Tomahawk Block IV missiles and Spearfish torpedoes. It left Perth earlier this month, and traveled approximately 5,500 miles, before arriving in the area.

The report said that the submarine surfaced periodically to communicate with the UK's Permanent Joint Headquarters at Northwood where any launch orders?would be authorized by the prime minister and conveyed by chief of joint operations.

The U.S. has been authorized to use British bases for attacks on Iranian sites that threaten the Strait of Hormuz.
