Data shows two LPG tankers bound for India crossing Strait of Hormuz and out of Gulf

Posted to Maritime Reporter on March 28, 2026

According to LSEG 'and Kpler' ship tracking data, two liquefied petrol gas?tankers BW Elm & BW Tyr are currently crossing the Strait of Hormuz on their way to India.

Iran announced this week that non-hostile vessels could transit the waterway if coordinated with?Iranian officials.

Data showed that the two India-flagged ships have crossed the Gulf and are now in the eastern Strait of Hormuz.

India is gradually moving out its stranded LPG tanks from the Strait of Malacca. Four LPG tankers have been moved thus far: Shivalik, Nanda Devi Pine Gas and Jag Vasant.

Rajesh Kumar Sinha said that as of Friday, twenty Indian flagged ships, including five LPG carriers, were stranded on the Gulf.

LSEG data shows that LPG carriers Jag Vikram Green Asha, and Green?Sanvi remain in the western Strait of Hormuz.

India, which is the second largest LPG 'importer in the world, is facing its worst gas shortages in decades. The government has cut supplies to industries, to protect households from a possible shortage.

Imports accounted for approximately 60% of the demand. Around 90% of those imports were sourced?from the Middle East.

India also loads LPG on its empty ships stranded at the Gulf. (Reporting and editing by Nidhi verma)
