Document shows that India's HPCL has issued a rare tender to HPCL for a tanker to load Russian LNG.

A tender document obtained by showed that India's state-run Hindustan Petroleum Corp had?issued an unusual tender to find a liquefied petroleum gas tanker capable of 'immediately loading propane and butane' from Russia's Ust-Luga Port.

Document stated that the vessel must not be subject to'sanctions' and have no ties to Iran. It will be loaded with 12 metric tons butane, and 8 metric tons propane, and discharged on India’s west coast.

HPCL did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

Indian state refiners want to purchase LPG (used as cooking gas) from more diverse sources, including Russia, as India is facing its worst LPG shortage in decades.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz after the U.S. and Israeli war against?Iran has disrupted supplies from the Middle East.

Indian authorities have said that they purchase LPG from countries such as the U.S.A., Norway?Canada and Russia.

India imported about 60% of its LPG demand last year. Around 90% of these imports were from the Middle East. Reporting by Nidhi verma. Mark Potter edited the article.
