Gaza Aid flotilla to Break Israeli Blockade

Posted to Maritime Reporter on April 12, 2026

On Sunday, a'second flotilla' carrying humanitarian aid to Gazan Palestinians was scheduled to leave the Spanish port Barcelona. The aim is to try and break the Israeli blockade.

A spokesperson for the flotilla stated that 39 boats would be leaving the Mediterranean port city. Additional vessels, also loaded with medical supplies and other supplies, are expected to join the route to?Palestine.

Thiago Avila said at a Sunday press conference that the flotilla would sail to another port and then continue on to international waters in the coming week.

Last October, the Israeli military stopped a flotilla assembled in the same way as this one. The boats were attempting to reach the blockaded Gaza. Greta Thunberg was arrested along with more than 450 others.

MISSION TO 'OPEN HUMANITARIAN CORRIDOR'

Israel, which controls all access to Gaza Strip, denies denying supplies to its 2 million residents. Palestinians and international aid agencies say that supplies are still not enough, despite the ceasefire agreement reached in October. This included promises of increased aid.

Liam Cunningham is an actor from the Game of Thrones TV series. He supports the flotilla, but will not be taking part. Every kilogram of aid on these vessels is a failure, because the people who are on board are giving up their free time to help their fellow humans. This is what their governments have to do.

According to the 'World Health Organization,' states are required to provide safe access to medical care during conflict.

Saif Abukeshak is a Palestinian activist who was a member of the flotilla’s organizing committee.

Israeli officials have denied that Swiss and Spanish activists who were part of the flotilla last year suffered inhumane treatment during their detention.
