Giles Scott, a Briton, is a key player in the America's Cup.

Giles Scott, a British sailing expert, was named the new sailing director of American Racing Challenger Team USA on Tuesday. The team is ramping up its preparations for next year's America's Cup, which will be held in Italy.

Scott, who has won two Olympic golds in the Finn class, and was a key figure in Ben Ainslie's America's Cup campaign, will report to Ken Read, the CEO of the U.S. Team.

As preparations intensify, the?British Sailor will "play an integral role in shaping team's sailing program?and performance strategies, working closely with the?leadership?and crew?as the preparations intensify," stated the U.S. Team, which announced their campaign on April 8th.

Scott stated in a press release announcing Scott's appointment that "this project brings together a powerful vision, strong leadership and a genuine desire to compete at the top."

Scott has already been active in SailGP. He will be moving from a British team led by?Ainslie to Canadian competitors at the beginning of the 2025 season. Scott has won some notable races.
