Glencore charters supertanker for Middle East oil loading, sources say
According to LSEG and a shipping source, Glencore, a commodities trading firm, has chartered a Supertanker 'to load Middle Eastern crude oil for Asia. This is likely the first 'oil tanker destined for this route since the ceasefire of the U.S.Iran war.
LSEG data revealed that the Asian Lion is a very large crude carriers (VLCCs) capable of carrying 2 million barrels.
According to LSEG and a shipping source, Glencore chartered the vessel at W580 based on the Worldscale industry metric used to calculate freight rate. ?Spot VLCC rates on the route. Also known as TD3C
Source: The demurrage charge is $580,000 per day. Demurrage is the charge that the ship owner pays if a vessel exceeds agreed upon time for loading or unloading cargo.
Glencore was not immediately available to comment on the vessel's fixture.
Shippers said on Wednesday that they need more clarity about the U.S. and Iran ceasefire terms before they resume transit through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran claimed the waterway was still closed to vessels without a license.
Iran has said that it will 'offer safe passage to ships in coordination with the armed forces. However, its coastguard warned on Wednesday that any ship trying to sail without permission will be "targeted" and destroyed.
The semi-official Iranian News Agency ISNA reported 'early Thursday that the Revolutionary Guards Navy of Iran has posted a map of alternative shipping routes to the Strait of Hormuz in order to assist transiting ships avoiding naval mines.
The six-week conflict brought the traffic through the strait to a standstill - a major chokepoint for oil and LNG shipments around 20% of all global shipments. This pushed global energy prices higher.
