Iran opens the Hormuz Strait to all ships except those with a 'traitorous' connection
Iranian media reported that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all ships except those linked to "Iran's enemy", according to reports published on Sunday.
Ali Mousavi made his comments in an interview with Xinhua on Friday, just before U.S. president Donald?Trump threatened to target Iranian nuclear power plants if the strait was not "fully opened" within 48-hours.
A threat of Iranian attacks during the U.S. and Israeli war against Iran has prevented most ships from navigating the narrow strait that is the conduit for around a fifth (or more) of the world's oil and gas supplies. This could cause a global energy crisis.
Mousavi is also Iran's Ambassador to the UK. He was quoted saying that Tehran will continue to?cooperate and work with the International Maritime Organisation to protect seafarers and improve maritime safety in the?Gulf. He also added that ships that do not belong to "Iran’s enemies"?could?pass?the strait if they coordinated security and safety arrangements.
"Diplomacy is Iran's priority." Mousavi said that a complete cessation in aggression, as well as mutual confidence and trust, are more important. He added that Israel and the U.S. The attacks on Iran were at the root of the current Strait of Hormuz situation. (Reporting and editing by William Mallard, Alexander Smith, and Dubai Newsroom)
