Israeli military strikes Houthi targets at Yemen's Hodeidah Port

Posted to Maritime Reporter on July 21, 2025

On Monday, the Israeli military launched a new attack on Houthi targets at Yemen's Hodeidah Port. The militants who are backed by Iran have been attacking ships bound for Israel with missiles and striking them.

Israel Katz, Minister of Defence in Israel, said that the army "forcefully combated any attempt to restore terror infrastructure previously destroyed".

Al Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthi group, said Monday that there were a number of attacks underway on the port. However, it did not provide any further details.

In a press release, the Israeli army said that the port they attacked was used to "transfer weapons from the Iranian government, which were then used by Houthi terrorist attacks against State of Israel and their allies."

The Houthis, who are aligned with Iran, have attacked vessels in the Red Sea since Israel's conflict in Gaza began in October 2023 against the Palestinian militant Hamas. They claim that they were acting in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Israel responded by launching an attack on the Houthis who control the majority of Yemen including the crucial port of Hodeidah.

"As i have said, Yemen's fate will be the same as Tehran. Katz stated that the Houthis would pay a high price for firing missiles at Israel.

In July, the Houthis took responsibility for the attack on the Greek vessel Eternity C. According to maritime officials, four of the 25 passengers aboard were killed.

The U.S. announced in May a surprise agreement with the Houthis, whereby it agreed to end a bombing against them, but only if Israel was spared. However, the Houthis claimed that the deal didn't include Israel. (Reporting and additional reporting by Maayan Loubell; Writing and editing by Tala Ramadan)
