Posted to Maritime Reporter on March 28, 2026

Maersk, a Danish container shipping company, has temporarily suspended?its operations?at the Port of Salalah in Oman. This was due to a security incident which occurred on Saturday morning.

The shipping giant released a statement saying that all Maersk crew were safe and accounted. No company cargo or vessels were affected.

A crane at the terminal was damaged in an accident, resulting in a temporary shutdown of all operations.

Maersk estimates that the operations will be halted in 48 hours.

The disruption comes as the conflict in the 'Gulf, triggered by U.S., Israeli and other airstrikes on Iran, has unstabilized energy and transport markets. Shipping is impacted by the 'effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. (Reporting by Ananya Palyekar in Bengaluru; Editing by Joe Bavier)
