Official from India says that a fuel tanker with Indian flag bound for Africa has set sail east of Hormuz.
An Indian government official announced on Friday that the Indian flagged 'oil tanker Jag Prakash is now sailing from the east of the Strait of Hormuz. It will be delivering gasoline from Oman into Africa.
Gulf shipping has been disrupted for the last two weeks, as Iran retaliates against the U.S. and Israeli attacks on the region.
Rajesh Kumar Sinha is India's Special Secretary at the Ministry of Shipping. He told reporters on Thursday that four Indian flagged vessels were?stuck in the Gulf of Oman east of the Strait of Hormuz. One of them, the Jag?Prakash had set sail.
He said that three vessels were still stuck on the east side. They had 76 Indian sailors aboard.
Sinha said that 24 Indian flagged vessels were still stuck in the Persian Gulf on Friday. This is the same as Thursday. There are 677 Indian sailors aboard. Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, said on Thursday that the country would fight to keep Hormuz closed as leverage against Israel and the United States. This was his first defiant statement since succeeding his father.
Kpler ship-tracking data showed that the Jag Prakash will discharge fuel from Oman's Sohar Port to Tanzania's Tanga Port by March 21.
