Rasmus Errboe, the CEO of the 'Danish offshore wind developer, 'Orsted, said on Thursday the Middle East energy crisis accelerates Europe’s push towards energy independence, which strengthens the case for offshore wind development.

Errboe said after the annual shareholders' meeting that "we have the second global energy crisis in five years. First with Ukraine and now with the Middle East where you see rising prices for energy."

"Europe has a big task to do in terms of ensuring energy security, competitiveness, and sovereignty. This naturally affects us, because we are renewable energy producers and our focus is on Europe," he said.
