Ship traffic in and around Antwerp Port partially suspended after oil spill
The shipping traffic around Belgium's Port of Antwerp was?partially stopped?because of a leaking oil spill that spread from a dock into the Scheldt river.
Antwerp's?harbour handles between 60 and?80 vessels daily. Port spokesperson could not say immediately how long traffic would be halted, or 'how many ships? would be affected.
The oil spill happened during a bunkering activity in Deurganckdock. The port announced in a statement that the source of 'the spill was stopped and contained.
Antwerp is a part of the Port Antwerp-Bruges. It's the second largest port in Europe by cargo tonnage behind Rotterdam. (Reporting and editing by David Goodman.)
