Somalia cancels all agreements, including port deals, with UAE

Posted to Maritime Reporter on January 12, 2026

Somalia's Government announced on Monday that it was cancelling all agreements with United Arab Emirates including port deals, defence and security collaboration, and citing evidence that the UAE undermined its national sovereignty.

The Council of Ministers of Somalia has revoked all agreements with the United Arab Emirates. This includes those involving federal government institutions, affiliate entities and regional administrations that operate on the Federal Republic of Somalia's territory.

The statement said that "this decision applies to all agreements and partnerships related to the ports of Berbera Bosaso and Kismayo... and"?bilateral agreements on security and defence cooperation.

The UAE authorities have not yet commented.
