South Korea is reportedly buying 53,800 tonnes of rice from traders

Agro-Fisheries and?Food Trade Corporation, the state-backed South Korean company, has?issued an international tender for purchase of 53,800 tons of rice from the United States.

The deadline to submit price offers for the tender is May 28. The tender was looking for about 27,200 tons of?sourced?from the United States, 20,500 from Vietnam and the remainder from Thailand. The tender is seeking non-glutinous brown rice of medium grade and long grade from Vietnam. Arrival dates are between August 2026 to?February 2027. The results of the tender may not be known until a few weeks after price submissions. According to traders, the 'corporation' often sends rice samples to South Korea for analysis before making a final award. (Reporting and editing by Emelia Sithole Matarise in Hamburg)
