Trump announces plans for new 'Trump class' battleships that will boost US naval power

Posted to Maritime Reporter on December 22, 2025

Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced plans on Monday to build a new class of battleships, larger, faster, and "100 times stronger" than anything before. The goal is to cement U.S. Naval dominance.

He said that the project would be eventually expanded to include?20-?25 new vessels.

According to U.S. Navy Secretary John 'Phelan, the planned build-out will result in "more firepower and tonnage under construction than at any other time in history." Components would be manufactured in all 50 states.

He stated that the battleships will not only have the "biggest gun" ever carried by a U.S. warship, but they would also carry nuclear-armed cruise missiles launched from the sea. The USS Defiant will be the first of these new 'battleships.

Trump stated that the Golden Fleet will include a number of other types of warships, such as a smaller and more agile frigate class announced by the U.S. Navy. (Reporting and writing by Steve Holland, Washington; Editing and proofreading by Chris Reese & Howard Goller).
