Trump: US Strait of Hormuz will be 'open pretty soon'

Posted to Maritime Reporter on April 10, 2026

Donald Trump, the president of the United States, told reporters that he expected a 'fairly soon' opening of?the Strait Of Hormuz. The Strait of Hormuz will be "opened 'fairly soon'" but did not elaborate. He also acknowledged that this will not an easy task.

Trump suggested that other nations were also offering assistance, but he did not name any specific nation.

Other countries use the Strait. Trump said that other countries are coming and will help.

"It won't be easy" Trump said, "I would say that we will have this open fairly soon." Since the beginning of the 'Iran War, the blockade by Tehran of the Strait has caused the greatest disruption in global energy supplies. The strait is choke point for 20% of oil and LNG shipments worldwide.

Trump is upset that NATO allies have failed to secure the Strait of Hormuz. On Thursday, it was reported that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte told European governments, following a meeting with Trump, that the U.S. President wants concrete commitments from the European government to help secure this strait in the next few days. On February 28, the U.S., Israel and other countries attacked Iran. Iran responded by launching its own attacks on Israel and U.S. base in Gulf states. U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran -and Israeli attacks against Lebanon - have killed thousands 'and displaced millions. Oil prices have risen and global markets have been shaken by the war. Trump announced on Tuesday a "fragile ceasefire" with Tehran, after threatening to destroy Iran's entire civilisation. The strait remains closed to ship traffic.
