UK looks at expanding its regulatory powers to combat energy price gouging and profiteering
Keir Starmer, Britain's Prime Minister, said on Monday that his government may re-examine the powers of the Competition Regulator to combat price gouging in the energy market.
Starmer, a member of a parliamentary committee, said: "We are looking at ways to combat 'profiteering. We might consider giving the CMA (Competition and Markets Authority), more teeth to tackle this."
"I would like to see more on price gouging and profiteering... We're actively considering whether CMA should have additional powers to deal with this, but at the moment, we are focusing on anti-profiteering."
