Andrii 'Sybiha, the Ukrainian foreign minister, said that he spoke to his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi on Tuesday, after Iran denounced a Ukrainian drone attack on one of its ships. He warned him about escalation, and told him he should stop all support for Russia.

"I stressed the need to refrain from any escalatory measures, and to?end all support for Russia's conflict against Ukraine. Sybiha wrote in X about his conversation with Araqchi that this war is illegal and must be ended.

Iran confirmed that the conversation took place.

Araqchi stated on Sunday that "the Ukrainian attack on a?commercial vessel of Iran in the?Caspian Sea" which resulted in one death and another injury, cannot go unanswered.

Sybiha stated that Ukraine's actions "were solely aimed at defending its country against Russian aggression, and were never intended to target civilian vessels or people".

Ukraine has been bombarded with drones designed by Iran for more than four decades.

Gideon Saar wrote in X that he spoke to Sybiha, and they "discussed challenges facing our nations including the threat posed from Iran."

He expressed his desire to intensify the cooperation with Ukraine.
