Yemen's Houthis declare that they have their "fingers on trigger" as the US-Israeli attack on Iran expands

Posted to Maritime Reporter on March 27, 2026

Houthis, who are Iran-aligned in Yemen, said they were "ready" to intervene militarily on Friday if other countries join the United States and Israel's war against Iran or if the Red Sea is used to launch attacks against the Islamic Republic.

Yahya Saree, a military spokesperson for the group, said that "we confirm our fingers are ready to trigger direct military intervention" in the event of new alliances between Washington and Israel and Iran and its allies or if the Red Sea were used for "hostile missions" against Iran.

Saree said that the Houthis would also be prepared to intervene if the Houthis felt the need to do so if the "escalation" against Iran and its "axis of Resistance" continues. However, he did not specify what form the intervention might take.

The warning increases the possibility of a wider regional conflict, especially given that the Houthis are able to strike targets beyond Yemen and disrupt shipping routes around the Arabian Peninsula. Iran's Shia allies in Lebanon and Iraq have joined the war in the region that was triggered by U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran. Houthis have not announced any direct involvement in the war despite their military capability and geographical position overlooking Red Sea.

Saree said in his speech that the group will not allow the Red Sea?to be used for "hostile operations" to Iran or any Muslim countries. He warned against further tightening what he called "the blockade on Yemen."

Saree demanded an end to U.S., Israeli and other attacks on Iran and its allies, such as the Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Iraq and the Lebanese, and called for the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire accord.

The Houthis attacked international shipping in Red Sea after the Hamas attack on Israel in October '2023, which triggered the?war in Gaza. They claimed to be acting in support of?Palestinians.

The group also launched 'drones and rockets towards Israel. This prompted retaliatory airstrikes by Israel and U.S. strikes on Houthi target in Yemen.

After a ceasefire brokered by the United States between Israel and Hamas, in October 2025, the Houthis stopped their attacks.
