Two dead after Peru Navy vessel strikes Perenco oil platforms in Amazon

The Peruvian Defense Ministry announced on Friday that two people were killed and another was missing after a Peruvian Navy vessel collided on the Amazon River with a Perenco oil platform.

The B.A.P. was navigating the area during a transit operation. Ucayali navigated the area as part of a transit operation.

In a press release, the Defense Ministry said that the incident had triggered an immediate response to search and rescue. It noted that 30 crew members were safely evacuated, and the search for the missing individual was underway.

The Defense Ministry said that it is investigating the cause of collision.

Perenco did not respond to a request for comment immediately.
