Danish authorities seize Iranian-flagged vessel due to registration concerns
Denmark's maritime authority said?on Thursday that they had detained and examined a container ship with an Iranian flag anchored in Danish waters because it was not properly registred.
According to LSEG, the ship was originally sailing under a Comoros 'flag. But Comoros informed Denmark the vessel had not been found on its registry.
The authority stated that the ship would be held until the flag state could?demonstrate' to the Danish maritime authority the fact that the vessel is registered and fully-certified. It added it would conduct a port-state inspection before the vessel was released.
Later, the authority said that they had conducted an inspection and found no safety issues.
LSEG data indicates that the "Nora", now flying under the Iranian flag, is now a LSEG vessel.
TV2, a Danish broadcaster, which broke the story first, reported that the ship changed its flag on Wednesday from Comoros into?Iran. The change was not confirmed independently.
According to LSEG, the "Nora", which was formerly known as CERUS and is a container vessel on the U.S. Treasury's list of sanctions, shares the same International Maritime Organization (IMO) number with a vessel formerly called CERUS.
The IMO number is a permanent vessel identification that remains unchanged despite name changes and flag?changes.
The CERUS is linked to Argun Shipping Inc., Reel Shipping LLC and the Office of Foreign Assets Control in the United States.
Was not able to contact Argun or 'Reel Shipping' for a comment.
According to TV2, the vessel has been idle for 25 days. Reporting by Stine Jacobsen, Soren Jppesen, and Louise Rasmussen. Editing by Terje Solsvik and Mark Potter.
