Cat Marine Power New Canadian Pilot Boats

Every marine vessel requires two critical components to ensure a safe journey: a competent master at the helm and a reliable power source in the engine room.  Because of the increasing ship traffic and safety concerns, the design of pilot boats used to transfer pilots to and from ships has evolved significantly in recent years.  Cat marine engines will power the majority of the new breed of pilot boats built for ports across Canada. The Laurentian Pilotage Authority (LPA), based in Montreal, recently commissioned a new pilot boat constructed at Hike Metal Products Ltd shipyard and designed by Lengkeek Vessel Engineering Inc. Central Canadian Cat dealer Toromont was in charge of supplying the propulsion machinery and generator sets.  Named Grandes Eaux (Mighty River), the vessel is powered by twin Cat C32 ACERT propulsion engines rated at 950 hp (709 bkW) at 1600 rpm and is capable of 25 knots. On-board electrical power comes from two Cat C2.2T generator sets each rated 29.5 ekW.  The pilot boat operates from Les Escoumins and transfers pilots to and from ships along the St. Lawrence River.  The Grandes Eaux demonstrates some of the latest technology and safety features being designed for modern pilot boats, such as deck- and hand-rail heating to avoid ice build-up, a stern-mounted hydraulic lift to aid an overboard passenger, and a neoprene fender to cushion impacts during pilot transfers


Caterpillar Launches Cat 3500 Gasket Kits

Caterpillar Marine is pleased to announce the launch of Cat 3500 marine diesel engine gasket kits for engine overhauls.  Cat gaskets are a critical part within Cat diesel engines and are specifically engineered with specialized materials to reduce leaks and keep fluid within the engine. Recognizing varied customers’ needs for their particular application, the kits are arranged by serial number to provide customers with a simplified and expedited ordering process

Caterpillar Marine and Power Systems was one of the most active companies at the 2013 International Workboat Show in New Orleans, debuting several new products that are compliant with EPA Tier 3 and 4 regulations, and finalizing the acquisition of propulsion equipment manufacturer Johan Walter Berg AB. Caterpillar Offers Global Extended Service Coverage

Caterpillar's Engine Products Division has made available the option of extended service coverage (ESC) for Caterpillar engines and generator sets in the industrial, electric power, petroleum and marine markets. ESC can be purchased from Caterpillar dealers worldwide as of August 1. For the first time, Cat engine owners are able to choose a standardized Caterpillar ESC package that ensures their equipment will be protected by the global network of Cat dealers and technicians.


Five Cat Engines to Power World’s First LNG-Hybrid Barge

Caterpillar Marine announced the first shipment of Cat 3500 series marine gas engines from its Lafayette, Indiana manufacturing facility. Five Cat G3516 marine engines were selected to power the Becker Marine Systems subsidiary, Hybrid Port Energy, LNG-Hybrid Barge, the world’s first LNG-powered barge in the Port of Hamburg. The LNG-Hybrid barge will provide clean and efficient shore power to cold ironing cruise ships and serve as a backup power provider for the local Hamburg electric


Caterpillar Secures Complete Propulsion Systems Order

Caterpillar Marine announced that Cat power and propulsion solutions have been selected to provide an optimized tug package for a 55T ASD tug new build for Remolcadores Marracoi SL (REMARSL). Two Cat 3512C EPA Tier 2 propulsion engines have been selected to power the tug as well as 2x  MTA 523FP Azimuth thrusters. Each Cat 3512C marine propulsion engine will provide 2x1765 kw @1800 rpm of rated power. Auxiliary power will be delivered through 2 x Cat C9 engines
