Evalend to Join Lasco Logger Pool

Two of Evalend Shipping Co. S.A. newly purchased logger ships, the Ambassador and the Senator, have been placed in the Lasco Logger Pool. Evalend, a private management company in Athens, Greece, operates ten ships in its fleet, committed two Hakodate built loggers to the Pool, which is commercially managed by Lasco. Evalend will perform its own technical management of its vessels. In commenting on the announcement, Anton U. Pardini, President/COO of Lasco, said that EVALEND’S participation in the Pool “…reflects Lasco’s ongoing efforts to establish strategic partnerships with other maritime ventures who share a common vision and philosophy, committed to providing reliable service and quality vessels, in order to better utilize tonnage.” He added that this reflects Lasco’s continued efforts to attract quality vessel owner/operators to create the added value the Pool’s charter flexibility and one stop chartering services benefits for its customers. Pardini went on to call attention to Lasco’s constant efforts to improve its capabilities to make forward fixtures and reduce ballast legs, aggressively positioning cargo opportunities. “Taking best advantage of backhaul cargoes, triangulating ports of call within the Pacific markets and reducing unnecessary ballast days are key components”, Pardini stated, “of the Pool’s benefit to both shippers and Pool members.”

MOL Forms New Medium Range Tanker Pool

MOL, Ultranav, OSG and Asahi Tanker reach agreement to pool product tanker operation Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) announced that a pool agreement governing the formation of a new medium range pool has been signed among the partners: MOL, Asahi Tanker Co., Ltd., Ultranav International S. A.(Ultranav) ., and OSG International, Inc. The new pool, Clean Products Tankers Alliance, will operate a combined fleet of around 60 medium range vessels

Star Tankers Pool Expands

Heidmar Inc. announced on Feb. 12 that longstanding pool member, Tsakos Shipping and Trading S. A., entered the M/T Selini into the Star Tankers pool on January 12, 2009. A second new building, the M/T Salamina, is scheduled to enter the Star Tankers pool in mid-February. Both vessels were built at Sungdong Shipyard in Korea.  Heidmar also announced that Sanko Steamship Co. has committed two additional vessels to the Star Tankers pool

Clipper Projects Heads Up New MPP Ship Pool

Navig8 to Acquire 32 Chemical Tankers

 Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc,  international  shipping company focused on the transportation of chemicals, has  entered  into  contracts  to  acquire  32  modern,  fuel-efficient  newbuilding  chemical  tankers.    As of today, 31 of these vessels have been delivered and are in operation, the company said in a press release.   The remaining vessel is scheduled to be delivered in the third quarter of 2017

Nordic Shipholding Profits below Market Expectations

For the 3 months ended 31 March 2016, Nordic Shipholding A/S generated a profit after tax of USD 1.5 million, compared to USD 2.7 million in the same quarter last year.  The average daily TCE rate earned by the vessels in the Handytankers Pool was below the forecasted daily rate, and also lower than the rates earned during the same period in 2015, whilst the LR1 vessel (Nordic Anne) tracked the forecasted daily rate.

The fourth of eight cruise ships Viking Ocean Cruises has ordered from Fincantieri has been delivered at the shipyard in Ancona.    Viking Sun, as its sister ships, is placed in the small cruise ship segment. Wood Wins LNG Platform FEED Contract

 The Honghua Group Limited has awarded a $12 million front-end engineering design (FEED) contract to Wood for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) platform development in the West Delta area of the Gulf of Mexico.   The main objective of the FEED is to finalize the design of the world’s first offshore platform-based natural gas liquefaction and storage facility. Wood recently completed the pre-FEED for this project.  

Odfjell Buys 5 Chemical Tanker Newbuilds

Odfjell SE informs it has signed a term sheet with Chemical Transportation Group, Inc (CTG) whereby Odfjell will acquire the last five of a total newbuilding order of 10 25,000 dwt vessels with 24 stainless steel tanks from Chinese ship builder AVIC Dingheng.    CTG will continue to own five vessels which will be placed in a pool commercially managed by Odfjell Tankers AS. NORDEN Adds Another MR Tanker

Two Sailors Saved in International Rescue Effort

Odfjell Acquires Five Chemical Tankers

Odfjell SE informs it has signed a final agreement to acquire five chemical tanker newbuilds from Chemical Transportation Group, Inc (CTG) and form a pool of 15 chemical tankers.   The transaction has been signed and completed, Odfjell said, after it announced on June 16 that it inked a term sheet with CTG to form the vessel pool and acquire CTG’s final five 25,000 dwt stainless steel newbuilds on order from Chinese shipyard AVIC Dingheng.  

Sri Lanka in China Port Deal

 Sri Lanka’s government on Saturday signed a long-delayed agreement to sell a 70% stake in a USD 1.5-billion port to China in a bid to recover from the heavy burden of repaying a Chinese loan obtained to build the facility, report local media.  After 10 years of negotiations, China Merchants Port Holdings has signed the agreement with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to develop the Hambantota Port in southern Sri Lanka.

Boskalis Acquires Subsea Survey Firm Gardline

Netherlands based Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. said it has acquired all shares of the U.K. based Gardline Group, a firm specializing in marine geophysical surveys, offshore geotechnical services and environmental surveys. The consideration paid including assumed debt amounts to approximately £40 million ($51.4 million).   Gardline was established in 1969 and was a second-generation family-owned business with principal offices in Great Yarmouth, U.K

DryShips Reports Q2 Loss

 DryShips posted a net loss of $15.6 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2017, widening from net loss of $9.1 million a year earlier. However, its revenue went up to $16.38 million from $15.75 million over the same period.    Its cash and cash equivalents stood at $77.2 million (or $1.14 per share) at the end of Q2, and book value of vessels, including advances, was $668.0 million (or $9.84 per share).
