Conrad Industries, Inc. announced its first quarter 2014 results. Smith Berger Tow Pins Lead the Way
Smith Berger Marine, Inc. said it has been selected by Edison Chouest Offshore to design and manufacture the Tow Pin Stern Roller units required on its nine new vessels, including five escort tugs and four docking tugs. Edison Chouest is building the new tugs in order to execute a 10-year Ship Escort-Response Vessel System (SERVS) contract with the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, for which the tugs will provide tanker escort and spill response services in Prince William Sound.

John Parker Conrad, Sr., founder of Conrad Shipyard, died peacefully on July 6 surrounded by family and friends at his home in Morgan City, La. He was 101 years old. A shipbuilding pioneer and a legend along the Gulf of Mexico coast and beyond, Parker founded Conrad Industries in 1948. Conrad now has five shipyards along the Louisiana-Texas coast. MARAD Approves Title XI Loan for Gray Offshore
A $12 million Title XI loan guarantee supporting the recent construction of three oceangoing deck barges was recently approved by the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD). The three barges, Julius, Cordie and Gwendolyn, were built by Conrad Industries for barge leasing company Gray Offshore, LLC and are currently in service in the Gulf Coast on project cargo moves in Mexico and transporting modules for U.S. refinery upgrades.
‘Double Skin’ Oil Barge Delivered to Vane Brothers
The Vane Brothers Company has taken delivery of a 55,000 BBL double hull oil barge, Double Skin 509A. Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) was contracted by the builder Conrad Industries to develop the design of the 361’ x 62’ x 24.5’, 55,000 BBL double skin tank barge. The construction of the barge took place at Conrad Shipyard in Amelia, La. The barge is certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) for oceans-fully manned trade.
