Oben Naki Heads to Canada

Oben Naki

Emphasising the close working relationship which exists between naval architects Robert Allan Ltd and Turkish shipbuilders Sanmar Ltd, Sanmar's Oben Naki has relocated to Vancouver BC to join the Canadian designers as contracts manager (Turkey). Naki joined Sanmar Shipyards in 2007 immediately on qualifying as a naval architect and marine engineer. He has since gone on to obtain an MBA at Yeditepe University in Istanbul, Turkey’s leading educational establishment. Sanmar has currently constructed some 120 tugs of various sizes and power to Robert Allan designs.

VPA Welcomes First Patrol Boat in 10 Years

Allied Shipbuilders of North Vancouver, B.C. delivered the new patrol vessel Takaya to Vancouver Port Authority (VPA) – its first new patrol vessel in 10 years. Robert Allan Ltd. has signed a contract during the recent International Workboat Show in New Orleans, USA.  Robert Allan Ltd. and Uzmar Shipyard signed documents commencing a new high performance escort tug project that is an example of the continuing strong co-operation existing between the two companies. Uzmar has now built over 90 Robert Allan Ltd. designed tugs and workboats since the first project in 1996, ranging in size from 15 m aluminium catamarans, to 36 m escort tugs

For more than fifteen years Robert Allan Ltd. has had tugs built to their designs by a cadre of Turkish shipyards. In that 15 years there has been almost one new tug delivery every month to a Robert Allan Ltd. design in Turkey. To date more than 150 tugs have been Turkish-built, and even in a slightly reduced market this year, compared to the heady days of 2008–2009, there are at least 15 Robert Allan Ltd. designs under construction there today. So far two Boğaçay series RAmparts 2400SX tugs have been delivered. The 'Bogacay I' was delivered to new owners Gemport in Turkey and renamed Zeycan Y. The second hull of the series, 'Bogacay II' has entered into service in Sanmar’s fleet. In late 2011, Sanmar A.S. contracted with Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver, B.C., Canada to provide a design for a new tug series to add to Sanmar’s expanding product portfolio

The 6000 kW ASD tug 'Ocean Tundra' has been commissioned into service by owners, Ocean Groupe Inc. (Ocean) of Quebec City, Canada. New Tug Delivered to Royal Thai Navy

 Italthai Marine, Thailand recently delivered H.T.M.S. Panyi, a Robert Allan Ltd. designed RAmparts 3200 class tug to the Royal Thai Navy. The tug was officially enrolled by Admiral Na Arreenich, the Naval Commander on March 27, 2017 in Bangkok.

Dual Fuel Tug Delivered to Østensjø Rederi

 After completing its sea trials program, Pax, the second dual fuel tug ever built in Europe, has been delivered to its owner, the Norwegian company Østensjø Rederi A/S. The first tug of this kind built in Europe, Dux, was delivered by the company last May.

A new fleet of pusher tugs and barges for Louis Dreyfus Company have recently begun construction in Brazil, all to customized designs from Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, Canada. The vessels will transport bulk grain products on the Amazon River system, with an expected delivery in 2017.  


Schottel Propels Rotortugs for FMG

Six Robert Allan-designed Advanced Rotortugs ART 85-32W for Perth-based Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) will be driven by Schottel Rudderpropellers. The order is about the delivery of 18 SRP 430 FP (1765 kW each). The vessels will be built by Damen Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam.

Svitzer has signed a contract with Sanmar to purchase a newbuild 80 tbp ASD escort tug for Southampton, U.K., strengthening its fleet to meet current and future customer requirements and reemphasizing its commitment to the port of Southampton.
