Smedvig to Build New Semi-Tender

Smedvig has entered into an agreement with Keppel Shipyard in Singapore for the purpose of building a new semi-submersible self-erecting tender rig (semi-tender). Total capital expenditure for the new semi-tender is estimated at $ 94 million, of which Smedvig's share is approximately $ 29 million. The agreement with Keppel Shipyard is based on the principle that Keppel shall build and own the the semi-submersible hull, and Smedvig shall own the derrick equipment set. Smedvig shall for a period of ten years be responsible for marketing, management and operation of the unit. The agreement includes an option for Smedvig to purchase the semi-submersible hull during the ten-year period at a pre-agreed price. The new semi-tender will be based on a similar but improved design and specification as Smedvig's West Alliance. The new unit is targeted for deepwater drilling operations in combination with floating wellhead platforms such as TLPs and Spars in benign waters. The new rig is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter 2005. Kjell E Jacobsen, CEO in Smedvig asa says: "This investment reinforces our position as the leading tender rig operator."

Sealift Changes Name to Dockwise Ltd.

At the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders today, shareholders approved the name change of Sealift Ltd to Dockwise Ltd. This name change will take on July 31. Hyundai Heavy to Build Largest Semi-Submersible Vessel

Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) won an order to build a $240m semi-submersible heavy transportation vessel (SSHTV) from Dockwise. The vessel is specially designed to transport more than 110,000 tons of offshore oil and gas production facilities including FPSO (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading) units. Wärtsilä Power for ORS Semi-Submersible Platform

Wärtsilä Corporation was awarded a contract in November 2005 by Yantai Raffles Shipyard in China to supply the main engines, thrusters and associated ancillary equipment for the new offshore semi-submersible platform "ORS Pioneer". Wärtsilä will deliver six Wärtsilä 32 diesel engines and motor-driven steerable thrusters together with various ancillary equipment. The main engines have a combined power of 29 MW.

Interesting Drydock Ops in Mexico

 Dolphin Drilling AS, a subsidiary of Fred. Olsen Energy ASA, has extended contract with Statoil for Bideford Dolphin. FPSO Newbuild Shipped to Rotterdam

28% of Offshore Vessels Currently Laid Up

Buchan Alpha Arrives in Shetland for Decommissioning

Transocean to Buy Songa Offshore

About 77 pct of Songa shareholders have so far accepted deal.   Transocean, one of the world's biggest drilling rig operators, has agreed a deal to buy Norwegian competitor Songa Offshore for 9.1 billion Norwegian crowns ($1.1 bln), the two companies said on Tuesday.   The deal, which would be mostly paid for in shares and convertible bonds, would strengthen Transocean's position in offshore drilling as Songa is Norwegian oil major Statoil's largest drilling service provider.
